Preacher Curl Benches

Standalone preacher curl benches rated on pad angle, elbow comfort, seat and pad adjustment, and bar cradle design.

The preacher bench exists to take cheating out of the curl. With your upper arms pinned against an angled pad, the shoulders cannot swing the weight up, the lower back cannot arch it through the sticking point, and the biceps have to produce every inch of the rep, including the stretched bottom position that a standing curl lets you rest through. What separates a good bench from a frustrating one is rarely the steel. It is the pad. Too narrow and your elbows hunt for support mid set. Too vertical and the load falls off exactly where the stretch matters. Too soft and the pad collapses under a heavy EZ bar, changing the angle rep by rep. The pad angle, its width at the top edge, and how firmly it is backed decide whether this small station earns weekly use.

After the pad comes fit for two bodies at once: yours and the bar's. Seat height has to place your armpits at the pad's top edge without your feet dangling, and it has to change fast if a training partner shares the bench. The cradle has to catch an EZ curl bar at a height you can reach from the seat, hold it without marring the bar's finish, and stay out of the way during dumbbell work, where many lifters actually get their best preacher training. Frame capacity needs to cover your bodyweight leaning into the bench plus the loaded bar, a combined figure budget listings sometimes quote in ways that flatter the product. Ten benches are compared below on those terms, with focused guides for heavy barbell work, for dumbbell specialists, and for tight budgets.
