Folding Treadmill Problems and Fixes: Creaks, Latch Faults, Deck Drop, and Belt Drift
Fix folding treadmill faults: hinge creaks, latches that will not hold, decks that drop too fast, wobble when locked, and belts that wander after every fold.

Folding treadmills add a hinge, a latch, and a strut to a normal treadmill, and each adds its own short list of faults. Most are adjustments, not failures. Work through these before assuming the fold itself is failing.
Creak at the hinge with every stride
Check the deck lock-down bolts first; a creak timed to your stride is usually the deck moving a fraction against its stops. Tighten per the manual's torque guidance, and confirm the latch is fully seated before blaming the hinge itself.
Latch will not hold the deck up
Stop using the fold until this is fixed. Inspect the latch pin and catch for wear or a bent bracket, and clear debris from the catch. A latch that slips under load is a safety part; replace it rather than adjusting around it.
Deck drops too fast when unfolding
The soft-drop strut is losing pressure. Lower the deck with both hands controlling it, keep feet clear, and treat the strut as a replacement part. Do not let children unfold a machine with a tired strut.
Wobble when the deck is down and locked
Level the machine first; folding frames rock on uneven floors more than fixed ones. Then check the rear stabilizer feet and the lock-down engagement on both sides. Persistent one-sided play points to a hinge bushing, which is a parts call.
Belt drifts after every fold and unfold
Common on folders: the deck flexes slightly as it moves. Re-center with the rear roller bolts at walking speed, quarter turns at a time, and give the belt a full minute to settle between adjustments. If drift returns daily, check belt tension next.
Fold assist feels weak or the deck is suddenly heavy
Struts age, and cold garages make gas struts lazier. Lift with your legs, keep the path clear, and plan a strut replacement if the assist has faded over a season. A deck that slams up or down at any point deserves a service call, not persistence.

Questions, answered straight
Is it bad to leave a treadmill folded all week?
No. Manuals in this class are fine with long folded storage; some suggest easing belt tension for months-long storage. Keep the latch engaged and the cord unplugged.
Why does my folder squeak only when folded and moved?
Transport wheels and frame joints carry the load at angles they do not see in use. A squeak while rolling is usually a dry wheel axle; a drop of silicone lubricant there is the whole fix.
