Our recommendation

Buy the Nuobell 580 if 80 lb covers your heavy work and you train the full range down to 5 lb on the same dumbbell. Buy the 1090 if you specifically need the last 10 lb to 90 and prefer a dial, accepting a 10 lb floor that makes it a heavy-only tool. Most homes are better served by the Nuobell's full range than the 1090's extra ceiling.

Range shape

The Nuobell runs 5 to 80 lb. The 1090 runs 10 to 90 lb. Both step in 5 lb increments. Read that as two different tools: the Nuobell is a complete dumbbell, the 1090 is a heavy specialist that still needs a light partner for warm-ups and isolation work.

Mechanism and materials

Twist selection in a machined cradle with a knurled steel handle, against dial selection in a molded tray with plastic in the selector path. Owner feedback on feel is not close. Owner feedback on price is not close either, in the opposite direction.

Choose SMRTFT Nuobell 580 Adjustable Dumbbell if…

  • Handle feel is a top-three criterion for you
  • You train from 5 lb warm-ups to 80 lb work sets on one pair
  • You prefer a single complete purchase with no ecosystem

  • You need 85 to 90 lb for presses or rows today
  • You already own light dumbbells for the low end
  • You prefer the dial routine and the lower entry price

FAQ

Which holds value better?

Steel-heavy designs with simple wear paths tend to age gracefully in owner feedback, and the Nuobell's construction points that way. Neither is an investment; buy the one whose range shape matches your training this year.
